Personal Project: Esak & Chau Kei

I met Esak and Chau Kei this past year through my Bikram Yoga practice. They are expecting their first child in January, and although she is 7-8 months pregnant, Chau Kei continues her daily practice and teaches regularly as well. I’m sure she will practice until her delivery date. Their highly evolved practice, beautiful bodies and love for each other made them an obvious attraction for a personal project. We are squeezing in sessions between afternoon schedules as often as possible as Chau Kei’s pregnancy progresses, and I will post updates as we go.

Esak and I have also collaborated on a video project focusing on Competitive Yoga. Being the champion in the 2005 International Asana Yoga Competition gives him a unique insight into the subject, and I expect to post an excerpt or two from that project soon.

Cheers

“How Do You Bestop?”

Now that I have this blog thing up and running, I have some catch-up to do with some projects I’ve wanted to share.

This last spring, we helped David Heitman at The Creative Alliance in Lafayette, Colorado produce what became three :30 TV spots for Bestop, an off-road accessories manufacturer based in Broomfield CO.

Dan Knudson Productions scouted locations for a few days before securing private land close enough to Boulder, CO so as to not have to contend with snow, ice and mud, but still have a “remote, back-country feel”.

We had great weather for the shoot (after pushing it back for a week because of snow). It was brisk in the morning, but warmed up for a shirt sleeve afternoon finish. You have to love the weather in Colorado!

DKP provided the video services and production, while TCA handled the edit for the three spots, one of which is posted here.

David Heitman checks an early shot while the crew does.. well I don’t know what? Maybe breakfast?

Hmm… too many chiefs?

Seems like half my life is spent on a ladder.

It even got a little dusty for some of the last shots in the afternoon.

“THE CHASE” for Warrior Lacrosse

let’s try a video: The Chase.. just cause I love it

I wanted to put a vid up to test, and thought this would be a great one. Dan Knudson Productions produced this last year for Warrior Lacrosse and the good folks at Vivid Design. John Davie and Tyler Ford dreamed this up after a long hard night on the town. MLL bad guy Nicky Palonco just keeps hunting the viewer down. Shot in and around the DKP studio in lower downtown Denver (LoDo), and edited by Jeff Klien of Ktheory, it keeps you on the edge of your seat.. for 30 seconds.

the first go at it..

well, actually it’s the second and third, due to my desire to sort these new programs out without reading the instructions. For some reason I always feel that I learn it better that way. The truth may be different.

Esak & Chau Kei

for pete’s sake (that’s my neighbor) it took me 15 min to figure out how to put a picture in here. I hope you enjoy it. My friends Eask and Chau Kei owning up on some yoga smooching. Don’t try this at home.
